Meet Your Instructor
Jana Rife, owner of Hanalei SUP Yoga, is a World Paddle Association Class II instructor and E-RYT 500-hour yoga instructor, which is the highest level of certification recognized by the Yoga Alliance. Having completed 500 hours of advanced yoga teacher training and taught more than 2,000 hours of yoga classes since concluding her RYT 200 certification, Jana has a deep understanding of yoga philosophy, anatomy and advanced teaching techniques. With more than a decade of experience as an instructor and having attended numerous trainings across the U.S. herself, Jana has carefully curated the comprehensive programs below for her students. 1 Day Standup Paddleboarding WPA Certification Program

Safety first! Solidify your knowledge of all aspects of paddling safety by completing this “gold standard” World Paddle Association Class I certification program in only one day. Based on the WPA’s structured training guides, this comprehensive program is the ultimate foundation for all SUP enthusiasts and instructors, preparing you to safely and confidently lead groups on any type of open water. This A-to-Z paddleboarding training covers SUP safety planning, injury prevention, water dynamics, basic boating laws and local waterway considerations, board and paddling skills, SUP etiquette, rescue techniques and more. Improve your own paddle technique and turning skills while learning how to instruct students in a SUP class and, importantly, how to help yourself and assist others in a rescue. Discover the difference between board styles and how to properly care for, repair and transport boards. 3 Day SUP Yoga Teacher Training Program

Immerse yourself in the world of everything SUP and yoga in this three-day dual certification program. Learn to safely guide others paddleboarding and through yoga classes on the water with confidence and skill. On the first day, gain your World Paddle Association Class I Water Safety certification training. This is the ultimate foundation for every SUP enthusiast and instructor that covers all aspects of safety on the water to keep both you and those who you are with—from students to friends—safe. While the WPA certification isn’t required in some other SUP yoga teacher training programs, it is a requirement for ours because of how incredibly important we know this experience to be. (See the 1 Day SUP WPA program above for more details.) On days two and three, you’ll focus on paddleboard yoga teacher training and earn your SUP YTT certification. This thoughtful program combines classroom time with on-water instruction where you will leave fully prepared to confidently lead SUP yoga programs in your community! Questions About SUP YTT
Here are a few FAQs about what to wear, bring and more. Please feel free to reach out to us directly with any additional questions.
What should I bring and wear to SUP and SUP yoga teacher training?
Our training will be indoors and on the water, and you will get into the water. Please wear comfortable clothing that can get wet, such as a bathing suit or rashguard and shorts, and bring a change of dry clothes. Also bring a towel, water, snacks and lunch that do not need refrigeration, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and anything else you need to feel comfortable outdoors.
What does the schedule look like and will we take any breaks?
The World Paddle Association SUP training is Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The SUP yoga teacher training includes the Friday WPA training as well as Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Yes, we will take a lunch break and other breaks throughout the weekend. Please bring a lunch and snacks that do not need to be refrigerated and drinking water.
I only want to do the World Paddle Association SUP training and not the SUP yoga teacher training. Is that OK?
Yes, the WPA training takes place on Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and you can register for that by itself.
I only want to do the SUP yoga teacher training and not the World Paddle Association SUP training. Is that OK?
No, you must do the WPA training as part of the SUP yoga teacher training. It’s critical to learn these SUP basics about how to paddle properly and safely, how to save a life on the water and much more.
